Carers for two dogs & house on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast

We are a retired, mature (54 & 61) gay couple, seeking a mature, responsible couple to look after our two much loved 10 year old dogs, and to house-sit our modern 4 bed/2 bath home. We will be in Europe from 12th May 2013 for about 6 weeks, returning June 23rd, the start date allows a couple of days for "changeover/familiarisation".

Our "babies" are in-house dogs but the outside space is well set up for their security & pleasure! We have a small female Jack Russell/Terrier cross (10kgs) & a larger male cross terrier(22kgs), they are very well behaved & well known in the local community!

Our house is situated in a fairly remote but stunning area on the East Coast of Tasmania,a large island off the S.E. coast of Australia. The house is about 100m from the sea and we have direct access through the Coastal Reserve to the beach,(where we walk the dogs each day). Please note that the climb up from the beach is quite steep and you'll need a reasonable fitness-level! The house has panoramic views of 9 Mile Beach (across the river) as well as Great Oyster Bay - including parts of the world-renowned Freycinet Peninsula, Maria Island & Schouten Island.

The nearest basic shops including a very good mini-supermarket/post office, and a bakery, pub, a few restaurants are at Coles Bay (6kms away)but there is good shopping in Bicheno (about 34kms or 20-25mins). You will need your own transport as there is NO public transport!

The location will NOT suit everyone-it is VERY quiet BUT beautiful here & you need to be happy with your own company & interests. The area is perfect for bushwalks, fishing, photography, painting, writing, reading etc. We have a small veggie patch which you are welcome to make use of & it may also appreciate an occasional water.

There is also an excellent (& challenging!)9 hole golf course only 1km away-unbelievably on some days you'll have it to yourself! Most homes here are holiday homes and the area is therefore only busy during key holiday periods(Easter, Christmas etc).

It can get cold here but we generally experience a temperate, maritime climate(it's sometimes windy though because of our elevated position!)but our temperatures are usually within 2-3C of Melbourne's. We have a reverse-cycle heat pump in the main open-plan upstairs area, as well as electric panel heaters in most rooms - although it is rare for the daily maximum not to reach at least 10C in mid-winter!! On sunny winter days if there is only light wind it is very mild.

This is the second time we have looked for house-sitters, the first one was a wonderful success for us, the dogs and the house-sitters!We are doing it for our dogs who we know would be happier staying at home-they are really no trouble although they are set in their little routines! We think you'll love them as much as we do!!
