We are looking for sitters for the period 22 April 2013 to 24 June 2013, (we have a couple to take over from then to Sept 24). We would like someone for the entire period or several couples who can take over from each other. We like people to come for a minimum of a month, and preferably not less than 6 weeks if possible. We are looking for an adaptable, adventurous couple (preferred) with sense of humour to housesit in Savusavu, Vanua Levu, Fiji. We have a small 2 bedroomed fully insect screened cottage, by the sea, 3kms from town. Swimming, snorkelling and kayaking across the road. Duties include giving TLC, food, and walks to our lovely dog Paddy, house cleaning, possibly cutting the grass around the house with a light mower and weeding and watering the vegie garden round the house. Heavy gardening is done by a gardener every 2-3 weeks. He is an interesting person from a Fijian village. Plenty of time to relax and enjoy this corner of Fiji. We need a fit and active person or couple, able to cope with 'island conditions' and not afraid of the unexpected. Broadband internet available, most of the time, as is city water and power, also most of the time. If you want wi-fi you can purchase a vodafone 'dongle' for use. You have to plug in for my internet, which is capped but extra time can be purchased (I never have). Savusavu has supermarkets, small cafes, 2 clubs and a varied expat population, and very friendly locals. 'Comfort' food not always available, not even McDonalds here! Plenty of fruit and vegies in season, and lots of small local cafes, as well as a couple of up-market ones. Cheap plentiful taxis or you can walk or bike to town. We would prefer someone for the full period. I have references from previous sitters, and can tell you more about Savusavu and living here. It is not a resort, its real life. We do ask for a small daily fee to cover all utilities which we prepay before we leave. April to September is winter, but the temperature rarely drops below 23C. It can still rain and be humid, and some will find it hot, better if you cant take humidity then its not for you. If you like the cold, sorry but its not for you either. We do not have air con but we do have fans. Savusavu has a good expat community, a Rotary Club, and interesting visiting yachtees from around the world. Most of all you need to be able to relax, read books, walk, visit, and not expect everything to be perfect. This is not a resort, its real life in a 3rd world country, that said, its also a pretty good life too! I have photos I can send should you be interested. If you are a person who has to be doing stuff all the time, this is not for you, you have to let go of all the hassles of the other world and be prepared to relax on 'fiji time' We have had many housesitters as we go away most years and they have all had a wonderful time. People with tropical experience would be preferred, but those with an open mind, good sense of humour, adaptable, and able to cope with the unexpected should apply. Thankyou.
